What Exactly Does a Home Warranty Cover?

If something breaks in your home, you’re responsible for paying for it. Need a new dishwasher, stove, or refrigerator? If you’re outside the standard manufacturer’s warranty, you are 100% responsible for any and all repair bills. What about electrical repairs? HVAC repairs? Plumbing repairs? These are some of the most expensive home repairs imaginable, and they all fall on your shoulders to pay in full anytime they break.

Sure, you have homeowner’s insurance, which can (depending on the plan) protect against things like floods, fires, storms, and other natural occurrences, but they do not cover an appliance or home system breaking unexpectedly at the worst time.

That’s where home warranties (also known as Home Protection Plans) come into play. Your home is an investment, and home protection plans are one of the best investments you can make within that investment. They have saved countless homeowners thousands of dollars and continue to do so year after year.

What exactly do home protection plans include?

The Coverage Provided by Home Protection Plans

Home warranties vary in what they cover and when. Our Home Protection Plans at Everything Breaks provide protection for several home systems of your choice, which can include:

  • Central heating
  • Central air conditioning
  • HVAC Ductwork
  • Electrical systems
  • Plumbing
  • Hot water heaters
  • Whirlpool bathtubs

You also get protection for a variety of other smaller things in your home. For a full list, see our home protection plan page.

If you upgrade to our Total Home Protection Plans, you also get protection for two additional major systems (from the list above) and all your registered consumer electronics. That’s right, your home protection plan also covers things like your smartphone, computer, laptop, tablets, televisions, and more.

How Long is Your Home Covered?

Coverage begins after a short industry standard waiting period when you start your plan. This is to rule out preexisting conditions and components of your home that are already malfunctioning. From there, your home is covered for as long as you continue your home protection plan. Coverage does not expire until you cancel your plan, which can be done at any time and for no additional cost. You can choose to pay on a month-to-month or annual basis, giving you the flexibility to have coverage when you need it and based on your home budget.

What About Brands?

It does not matter what type of brand your appliances or home systems are or where they were purchased. So long as they were installed properly, they will be included in the protection plan.
