What to Ask When Buying an Auto Warranty

When shopping for an auto warranty, it pays to ask your potential provider as many questions as possible. It allows you to not only see what the company is offering but can also help you weed out lesser quality companies who don’t have your best interests in mind.

If you are shopping for any type of vehicle protection plans, these are the best questions you can ask.

What Does an Auto Warranty Cover?

This is probably the most important question you can ask! Every company offers different types of coverage, and many have various plans that provide coverage for different vehicle components. Don’t be afraid to ask for a detailed list of what is and is not covered on each plan.

Find out what our vehicle protection plans cover

How Old Can My Car Be?

Not all companies protect cars of all ages, and some have harsh limits that refuse to cover vehicles 10 years or older. At Everything Breaks, our auto protection plans will cover your car so long as it is not older than 20 years.

Is There a Mileage Limit on Vehicle Protection Plans?

Many car warranties have mileage limits on the vehicles they cover. At Everything Breaks, our vehicle protection plans provide coverage up to 250,000 miles*. After the vehicle has exceeded that amount, no coverage will be provided.

Make sure you ask your auto warranty provider what their mileage limits are and when your car will cease to be covered.

*Covered mileage can change based on the protection plan you choose.

Can My Car Be Repaired Anywhere?

Some companies limit your options when it comes to mechanics and vehicle repair and service facilities, choosing to instead partner with a few providers that limit where your car can be repaired. This can be inconvenient for you as you’ll need to find a repair facility that is located close to you and can be trusted to make the necessary repairs.

At Everything Breaks, we work with any ASE certified mechanic or dealer. This gives you plenty of options no matter where you are in the country. We want to make sure getting your car repaired is as easy as possible. Plus, we pay our dealers directly, so you don’t have to pay out of pocket.

Note: be wary of companies that ask you to pay for the repairs first! You should not have to pay out of pocket and wait for your vehicle protection provider to reimburse you for the repairs! At Everything Breaks, this is never how we operate!

Do Your Auto Warranty Plans Expire?

Some auto warranty plans expire, run out, or stop providing certain benefits over time. At Everything Breaks, none of our plans expire (unless your vehicle reaches a certain mileage/age). So long as you continue to pay for your plan, you will always receive 100% of the benefits and coverage provided by your plan.

Are Vehicle Protection Plans Transferable?

Not every company allows vehicle protection plans to move from person to person when you sell your car. At Everything Breaks, our plans follow the vehicle.

Do I Have to Sign a Long-Term Contract?

Many auto warranty providers lock you into long-term contracts and refuse to let you cancel at any time. At Everything Breaks, we won’t lock you into a long-term contract. Many of our plans can be cancelled any month, at any time. If you choose to, you can sign an annual contract with us that will cover your vehicle for 12 months—we tend to offer discounts for these plans, too!
